Should Athletes be Working in other Energy Systems?
Something I’ve been pondering over the past month is which energy system should I be training my athletes in? For example, a basketball player will be operating in a completely different energy system during resistance training as opposed to when they are playing basketball or practicing jump shots.
I think, especially with high school athletes, it’s important that all athletes work on overall explosion considering the majority of high school athletes play a shorter schedule. An example of this thought process would be, that a high-school baseball player should be focusing more on power while a professional baseball player should be more focused on preserving their body for longevity over a 162-game season in comparison to a high school baseball player’s 20-game season.
Again, my mind is subject to change, but this is something that’s piqued my curiosity as of late. Let me know on Instagram @ripcitystrength your thoughts!
